Payvand Filmless Imaging System:
A package of tools, which acquire, transmit, store, retrieve,
Search and display medical images and related information such as
structured reports.
The system is capable of communicating over a local or wide-area
network in conformance with DICOM standard.
Introduction:
Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) are computers
or networks dedicated to the storage, retrieval, distribution and
presentation of images. The medical images are stored in an
independent format. The most common format for image storage is
DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine).
Before installing the PACS, we must know the benefits of
supplementary products and tools such as necessary hardware,
network, internet, appropriate OS (especially for the servers),
educated personnel, security of the system and data, disaster
recovery plan which they are playing very important roles in
performance and quality of the system.

We should be aware of our needs about the integration of PACS and RIS/HIS, using the Tele-Radiology, Dicomizer, standard reports as Structured Report (SR), image processing and computer aided diagnostic tools, stability of PACS and DICOM servers.

Why using “Payvand Filmless Imaging System”?
- Getting ride of hard-copy archive
- Accessing to medical images and reports easily
- Consulting and reporting remotely
- Integrating image archives of all modalities in a central PACS
- Reasonable cost
- Fully supported system
System components:
- Acquisition Interface: An interface program, which receives DICOM-formatted images from the input modalities and related patient information from RIS System and stores, received images to PACS-Server after desired modifications on images.
- DICOM-Server: A program that runs as a background process on Acquisition Interface computer and PACS-Server computer and waits for requests from the input modalities and other workstations.
- PACS-Server: This program contains a database that keeps track of every image in the PACS. It is also a file server holding the received images and keep them online.
- PACS manager: a web-based program which allows the system administrator to manage the PACS system over the web.
- DICOM Viewer: A program that runs on every node of the local network and facilitates searching and viewing of PACS images and reports. It contains many useful image processing features.
- DICOMIZER: A program that converts digital images from Non-DICOM modalities into DICOM-formatted images and stores them in the PACS-Server.
